Bible Memorization Project 2013 Kickoff!

By Eva Jester

Happy New Year!  Today marks the beginning of a new year and also our Bible Memorization Project 2013.  If you have not already signed up, it is not too late.  Please let us know if you will be joining us!

I wonder how many of you are as excited as I am to begin the new year studying and memorizing God's Word?  Perhaps you haven’t committed to the project yet and are asking yourself “Why should I memorize scripture?”

 "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."
                                                Psalm 119:11

There are several points that we could take away from this verse but hiding God’s word in our hearts is a strong one.  When we memorize scripture, that is exactly what we are doing; hiding God’s Word in our hearts.  As the words get hidden in our heart, the Holy Spirit brings them back to our memory when we need them most.

A footnote from the Life Principles Bible reads;
"Many Christians today have never experienced the power and encouragement available to them through memorizing Scripture.  When you lock portions of God's Word in our mind, they remain available always to help and strengthen us in tough times."

This is so very true! Have you ever been going through a tough time and than out of no where a verse comes to mind and it is exactly what you needed to hear?  I love it when that happens and I am praying that as you commit scriptures to memory that will be your experience as well.

Some of you may be feeling overwhelmed by the thought of this project and I want to highly encourage you to take it slowly and choose verses that will help you in various areas of your life.  However they do not have to be long verses or whole passages.  I would encourage you to take baby steps especially if this is your first time.  Find someone that is also memorizing verses and try them out with each other once in a while.

Most of all, please know that God is pleased with you no matter how short or how long your verses are and whether you get them exactly right or not.  Also, we are proud of you for signing up for this project!

Hebrews 4:12 seems to have been popping up over and over these past few weeks so I decided to make that my first memory verse.

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."  Hebrews 4:12(NIV)

Now it is your turn, leave your verse as a comment on this blog post.  Also, if you are not part of Women’s Bible study but want to join us, then go right ahead.  We would be thrilled for you to be a part of this project.

So ladies, now it is time for the Bible Memorization Project 2013 to begin.  Let it rip!!!!!  Let’s see those verses!!!!  YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!

We will be praying for you all,
Eva Jester
