We did it! After almost twenty weeks of sustained intellectual commitment focused on ten specific scriptures, we stand on the brink of our Bible Memorization Project round-up. How did you do? Did you make it? If you did, give yourself a well earned spiritual pat on the back. If you have never done this kind of thing before perhaps a kicking of the heels in midair with a hip hip hooray might more be in order. Whatever the case take a moment to savor in the satisfaction of reaching an aspired goal.
As you know, we have a reward for those of you who have labored towards this end. Linda and I have planned a delectable brunch to be shared with those who co-labored with you in attaining this same goal. The date for the brunch is June 14th and it is by invitation only. Why by invitation only? I will borrow words from the apostle Paul in his first letter to the Corinthian church “such men deserve recognition” or in this case women. You ladies labored hard and deserve acknowledgment for your efforts. We applaud your tenacity and we want to bless you.
However, it isn’t going to be as easy as just telling us that you have accomplished your goal. You are going to have to spend a little time showing off to us. As soon as you have memorized all ten verses, what you need to do to receive your invite is to grab either Linda or I (whether it be after Bible study, after Sunday’s late service or even after Discipleship classes on Wednesday evening) hand us your index cards and recite away. By now you’re probably a pro and have worked your scriptures into every day language. I know you will be stunning in your recitation. After you recite your verses, you will be given the invitation that will tell you what time and where. (Please note, if you want to recite the verses on any Sunday give us a heads up in advance so we can look for you. You can email us or give a call at home to let us know when)
If this is causing some of you to get nervous, DON’T! Linda and I will be more then gracious in our listening. For me, just seeing the worn out index cards from memorizing all these weeks will make my day. I am not as much a stickler for the references as I am about the words. I want you to know what you have memorized and not necessarily where it is. Please, please, please don’t let this one thing keep you from showing us what you know. Part of reaching goals is keeping accountability with others and this is one of those times. I just know that you will do great!!
One more thing, the last day to recite verses will be June 8th. We need to have a deadline so we will know how many people will be joining us. It will be a fun time fellowshipping with like minded memorizers like yourself. You won’t want to miss it. You ladies have been an extraordinary bunch of women to embark on this project with and I look forward to brunching with you on June 14th.
(By the way, in case you were wondering….yes Linda and I will be reciting our verses to each other and Linda will be doing most of the cooking. I did say the food would be delectable…:-)
"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matt. 6:33

Bible Memorization Project - Week Eight
Good Morning! Good Morning! Good Morning!
How is everyone doing today? Well the last few days were a whirlwind spiritually as a family. On Saturday we attended the play at Monmouth Worship Center and boy did that bless my heart. Kudos to all who poured out an overwhelming amount of time and energy participating in that production with the sole purpose that others might know the reason for the hope that we have as lovers of Jesus. I am told that there were somewhere around 40 commitments to Christ that day. Glory to His Name! If you haven't seen "My Story" there is still one more performance this Friday. Why not bring a friend?
Yesterday, I was neck deep in matzah all day. From matzah stuffing to matzah kugel to matzah apricot squares to matzah ball soup. Still not tired of the stuff because I just have an affinity to it. I will take a plain piece, smear it with a little butter and I am in heaven. Our Seder was a success as we plowed through the Haggadah (the telling) learning how intimately Christ is displayed in the passover supper. Since passover is meant to be a joyful celebration, there was much laughter and love. We celebrated the love of God and all that He has accomplished in our lives through the death of Jesus. Just as God rescued His people from the clutches of Pharoah and brought them into the land promised for them, He has indeed accomplished that same deliverance spiritually in Christ. "He rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves". (Colossians 1:13) Hallelujah!
Ok so the main point of our post. You guessed it, it is that time again. We are now up to our eighth verse and I just know you guys are tracking with me. I am really glad that you commited to taking this journey to go deeper with Him. Nothing has dramatically catapulted my spiritual life quite like Bible memorization. Something about memorizing and meditating on God's word that just changes my perspective on life. It is often only after I have been working on difficult passages that the Holy Spirit will suddenly bring illumination and revelation. Often this deeper meaning from my meditation and memorization will usher me into the wonder and briliance of God that leaves me breathless. There isn't anything like it and it draws me to want to do it more and more. For me, this is a Holy habit and not one I will quickly give up. The benefit/rewards are to extreme for me and I know that if you keep at it, you will agree.
So let me kick it off with my next verse and as usual you follow through in the comments with yours. I am continuing on a passage I started with week seven.
"who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God." 2 Corinthians 1:4
Have a blessed day!! Shalom!

Bible Memorization Project - Week Seven
Hello my blogging buddies!
Can you believe it? Here we are paused on the brink of our seventh verse which would make us almost 70% done. If you have made it thus far take a moment to stop and give yourself a spiritual pat on the back. If you never memorized scripture before now maybe a round of applause would be more appropriate. We are so proud of you and we want to encourage you to keep at it. You are almost there.
This week someone mentioned in class that they were having trouble keeping all the verses that they had memorized in the past fresh. I thought I should broach the topic here for anyone who is struggling with that same kind of thing. I would suggest, and it is what I do, is to recite all your prior verses each day before you set out to work on your current verse. For instance, before I would work on my seventh verse, I would rehearse verse one through six. Then I would proceed onto my new verse. If you make this your practice I can tell you that it will become a breeze in no time. Make it part of your morning routine and very soon it will become to you a holy habit.
Ok so this is the part of the post where I lead out with my verse and you all follow through in the comments with yours.
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort." 2 Corinthians 1:3

Bible Memorization Project - Week Six
Hello, hello, hello....
Week six of our Bible Memorization Project. So, how are you doing? If the progress of the women in Tuesday morning bible study is an indication, you must be doing stellar. We were thrilled to see how many are right on track and some who weren't quite where they wanted to be but were determined to finish the project. Your tenacity to hide God's word within your heart will pay off. Don't give up. Ten weeks from now is going to come no matter what, wouldn't you like to be able to mark that time with having accomplished your goal. You will not be sorry you did.
This verse keeps mulling around in my head as I write this blog;
"Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this." 2 Timothy 2:7
To put it another way, God will give you understanding as you reflect on His word. I am wondering are you reflecting on what you are memorizing. Has God given you deeper understanding as you have? If you have found a deeper richer meaning as you have been commiting your scriptures to memory why don't you share those insights either as a comment on this post or with someone else who is also memorizing. Nothing is as thrilling then sharing fresh perspectives with others as His word comes alive to you.
I would also like to present a challenge to any of you who are starting to feel that the Bible Memorization needs to be cranked up a notch. Why not take a verse that you don't understand and "reflect" on it as you memorize and let's see if God brings you revelation. According to 2 Timothy 2:7, He will. How's that for an explosion of excitement just waiting to happen? Go for it?
Well I have picked my memory verse for today. It came to mind as Annie was teaching today about dedication. See if you can pick out from my verse what I am dedicating to the Lord. :-)
"Do everthing without complaining and arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life" Philippians 2:14-16a
Your turn......love you guys. You love for the Word blows me away!

Bible memorization Project - Week 5
Today marks the half-way point in our Bible Memorization project. We are now beginning to memorize our fifth verse. Wow! It is hard to believe! When we began our project, the ground was snow covered and now the robins have returned with the approach of spring. For those of you on track – a round of applause! I’m sure your dedication to God’s Word is bearing fruit. For those of you who may have fallen behind - don’t give up!! It's natural when we take on any challenge to get discouraged when we feel we are falling short of the goal. You have the power of the Holy Spirit in you...you CAN do this! I challenge you to choose a verse today. Hide it in in your heart!
Today during Women's Bible study we were encouraged in our memorization project. A line of scripture really hit my heart. It is familiar to all of us, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (Jas. 1:22 NKJV). I was challenged to think about what it really means to be a ‘doer’ of the word. I think the ‘doing’ goes beyond a physical action to include what is going on in our minds. I admit that this can be hard for me.
I was saved when I was in my 30’s. At that time I had a profound change in my thinking. I would have said that, without a doubt, I believed that God’s Word was true. I think many of us would wholeheartedly believe that Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. We believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was resurrected on the third day, and will come again in glory. Yet do we believe with the same certainty that we should “..have no fear of bad news, his (our) heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord” ? (Psalm 112:7) Do we truly believe that we can commit everything we do to the Lord and that in trusting Him, He will help us (my paraphrase of Psalm 37:5)?
Memorizing scripture is an important spiritual discipline but we need to do more than just commit God’s Word to our memory. We need to live like we believe it. We need to speak like we believe it. We need to think like we believe it. Hebrews 4:2b says “but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith”. God has given us the faith to believe His word. Hebrews 11:6 says “And without faith it is impossible to please God”. We have to make a choice. We can choose to believe our own thoughts or choose to believe God’s thoughts. I’m sure you are with me when I say “I want to believe God”.
Here's my verse for week 5:
"The LORD is my strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds feet and will make me to walk (not stand still in terror), but to walk and make spiritual progress on my high places of trouble, suffering, or responsibility." (Hab. 3:19 AMP)
So let's have your verses!! Please leave them as a comment below.

Bible Memorization Project - Week Four
Hello everyone! Can you believe it? We are on our fourth memory verse already. How are you doing with your scriptures? I was thrilled to see in Women’s Bible Study that so many of you are right on track and more then a few of you are ahead of our schedule. You inspire me. I can’t tell you how proud I am of you all.
Thought I would take a moment to share some thoughts on a verse I came across the other day.
“Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads…..so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the LORD swore to give your forefathers…” Deuteronomy 11:18&21
Look at the definition for the word “fix” from my Hebrew dictionary; “to set, put, establish, plant, set down, make, appoint. Essentially means to put something somewhere.” (Key Word Study Bible) I love the last part of that definition, “to essentially put something somewhere.” Do you think you could apply that definition to memorization? Would you say that essentially you are putting scripture somewhere and that somewhere is your brain? I just love that!
What really thrills me is the promise attached to the “fixin”. This verse tells us that if you do and you obey these words, “your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the LORD swore to give your forefathers.” In Old Testament scripture, land represented the place of God’s full provision and blessing. Just as with the ancient Hebrews obedience brought them a fullness of provision and blessing we too live in that same spiritual state as we fix God’s words in our minds and walk in obedience to those words.
I hope that that excites you to see how much God is for you as you fix His word in your heart and mind. He is well pleased with you.
Well ok here is your opportunity to submit verse number four. I will lead out with mine.
“I will betroth you to me forever, I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the LORD.” Hosea 2:19-20

Bible Memorization Project - Week Three
Have you ever watched one of these home makeover shows? You know the kind, they take a house in badly needed repair and they clean up the outside and gut the inside and make it beautiful. It is such an awesome transformation to watch. Did you know that God is in the transformation business too? Only His work is on a temple and that temple is you.
We often think that the transformation process that takes place is up to us. We think that once we give our lives to Christ it is now up to us to manage our makeover. We try and fail at so many attempts that we abandon our renovation endeavors. But here is some good news.
While sanctification is a weighty topic whose scope goes far beyond this post, there is one thing that you are doing today that is helping that process along. Memorization. Look at this verse with me.
“And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard form us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God which is at work in you who believe.”
1 Thessalonians 2:13 (emphasis mine)
Can I ask you, according to this verse where is God’s word at work? Your answer should be “in you”. So here is the thing, if the word isn’t in you then how can it go to work? That is why memorization is so key to growing in Christ. As you memorize and meditate on His Word it goes to work and does an Extreme Spiritual Makeover. Doesn’t that excite you?
God has made it so simple for us. Whatever our weakness is, God’s prescription is for us to get a word about that weakness in us. If you have fear, memorize scriptures about fear. If you have trust issues, memorize scriptures about trusting God. If you have wisdom issues, that would be me (see last weeks verse), memorize scripture about wisdom. As you do this, you will see a metamorphosis of sorts take place and you will become a new improved version of you. If that isn’t a memorization motivation, I don’t know what is.
So here it goes ladies….memorization verse number 3. Let’s see what you are working on by leaving it as a comment today.
I am so proud of all of you!!
Here’s mine:
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7

Bible Memorization Project - Week Two
Welcome to Bible Memorization Project week two.
My head is still spinning at the amazing response that we are seeing as a result of this project. At least two thirds of you have embarked on this journey and several more have enlisted even today. The results have been wonderful to see. You guys are a thrill a minute and I am beyond blessed to be partnering with you in this. All I can say is “YOU ROCK”. Your enthusiasm for God and His Word is contagious and it was exciting to see you share you verses and memorization tips with each other.
Here are a few of them:
1) If you aren’t sure if you could handle memorizing a verse at first, why not take one that you sort of know and work on it until you can nail it.
2) Or maybe you know the verse but not the reference.
3) One of our sisters draws pictures to help her remember hers
4) Two of our women are going to sing theirs to us.
5) One finds it is best if she writes it down every day.
If you have any tips that you think might help, leave them in a comment below. (Instructions for doing that can be found on the side panel of the blog)
Now if you haven’t joined us yet, you still can. You only need to finish all 9 or 10 verses by May 17th which is the verse rally day. That is the day where you will need to recite them to a Bible Memorization leader to qualify for the luncheon. Please don’t be anxious about this part, these women will be very gracious in their listening. (Further details read Bible Memorization Project)
Once again, thank you for responding to this initiative. You are an extraordinary bunch of women and I thank God for you.
Ok so here is my verse;
“Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendor.” Proverbs 4:7-9
Ok now it is your turn to leave yours as a comment!

Bible Memorization Motivation
Hello everyone!
I can’t tell you how blown away I am with the response to the Bible Memorization Project. Last week we blasted Facebook with our scriptures as each of you left a comment with your memorization verse. I am sure we shook the internet waves with an explosion of God’s Word.
We had some twenty plus women sign up who are consistently working on their verses. I had more then one woman share with me about their progress and the joy that they are feeling. They are just so thrilled to be hiding God’s Word in their hearts. It is nearly bringing me to tears. I am so proud. You go girls!!!
Now we are fast approaching our second verse. Are you ready? If you are still working on your first verse, don’t let that discourage you. I am certain that you will accomplish your goals. How do I know this? Because John 14:26 tells us that God gave us help.
“But the counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
God has provided you a “Holy reminder” of sorts to help you. Aren’t you thankful for that? Not only that, but there are women who have committed to pray over this Memorization Project for you. Yeah! God bless them. Did you know that 1 John 5:14 tells us;
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.”
Since God wants us to hide His word in our hearts, then it is a no brainer. We should be able to do it. We just need to ask and then believe it to be so.
If you haven’t enlisted yet in the project and want to be a part of what we are doing, it isn’t too late. Jump on board; we would love for you to join us. If you want more details just read the blog post for the Bible Memorization Project and get started. Anyone can be a part of what we are doing. You don’t need to be in Women’s Bible Study.
Ok ladies…now is your time to display what you have been working so hard on. Let’s see if you can post your verse as a comment from memory.
Jesus is so thrilled with you!

Bible Memorization Project-Week One
Hello everyone;
I stumbled on a verse the other day that I can't seem to get out of my head.
"When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan." Genesis 14:14
What intrigues me about this verse is that Abram had 318 men who were trained for battle. When the enemy came against his relatives, he was prepared to fight for them. This past week we learned that as New Testament Christians we encounter battles as well. But our battles are spiritual and the way we fight them is by wielding the Word of God like skilled warriors.
Last week in Women's Bible Study, I thought I would mention that I and a couple of women had decided that we were going to go into training by memorizing scripture. I pitched out the suggestion that if anyone wanted to join us, let me know. To say I was speechless from the response would be putting it mildly. This Bible Memorization Project is the result of that response. I can't wait to see how many sword wielding warrioring women this project produces. Come on girls, let's get the enemy really mad he thought to mess with us.
Now this is very important. If you are solely a blog follower you can participate too. Just let us know in the comment section. Everyone gets to participate. We don't want to leave anyone out.
So here's how it will work.
What is it?
1) We will memorize one verse and its reference every two weeks.
2) We will write the verse on an index card and number each verse corresponding to the week.
Calendar
Verse 1 - January 11 – start date
Verse 2 - January 25 – alternate start date
Verse 3 – February 8
Verse 4 – February 22
Verse 5 – March 8
Verse 6 – March 22
Verse 7 – April 5
Verse 8 – April 19
Verse 9 – May 3
Verse 10 – May 17
Verse rally day - you will recite your 9-10 verses to one of the Bible Memorization leaders – don’t forget your index cards.
The Prize
For all those that have met their goal we will have a luncheon to celebrate. All you need to do to attend and say your 10 verses to one of the Bible Memorization leaders.
What Verse?
You can either pick your own verse or ask us to give you one. You want the verse to have meaning to you so it should be something that is really relevant to your life.
How to Memorize Verses?
Day one – Say the verse once looking at it then repeat it 10 times trying not to look.
Day two and after – The same.
If the verse is too long, break it down into portions:
Day one – say the portion once looking at it then repeat it 10 more times.
Day two – say the first portion once looking at it then repeat it 10 times without looking at it. Work on second portion. Read it once then repeat it 10 more times.
Day three – say the first portion ten times, say the second portion 10 times, then start on the third portion.
Never move on until you have each portion memorized. Do this everyday and I believe that you will master the technique in no time at all.
Accountability
Keeping yourself accountable is important because when someone else knows that you are memorizing it will cause you to do it.
1) Partners – Let someone know that you are memorizing, hopefully someone else who is, and keep each other accountable. You can ask to listen to each others verses every two weeks.
2) Facebook – Every two weeks I will put my verse up on facebook and you friend me and put yours up to.
3) Blog – Every two weeks we will put a post up on the blog about what number verse we are up to. Week one, week two ..etc and you can leave your verse as a comment.
Last Word
In order to be successful at your memorization make sure that as we move through the weeks that you continue to recite the verses you have already committed.
So let's get going! If you want to use this blog as you accountability spot. Leave you name and verse with it's corresponding address in the comment section.
I will start us off.

Thanks so much for dedicating this time to Bible Memorization. I know that God is going to meet you and bless you in ways that you never imagined .
